Salamanders in the oven……

Salamanders in the oven make for a lot of screaming in the kitchen, and that’s what happened today.

Salamanders are small lizard like creatures which can adapt their colour to blend in with their environment. They are fascinating and get everywhere including inside my oven. This scares the life out of me, every time I find them in there which is quite often. Just in case you are worried they are going to get cooked I don’t use this oven for cooking which is good news for the salamanders.

Salamanders are reputed to eat insects, and scorpions supposedly although I find this difficult to believe. They are nimble and inquisitive and not only do they get in the oven where they are not supposed to be but also in my closet. I think this may explain the odd stains which appear on my clothes from time to time.

They are incredibly agile and can walk upside down on the ceiling with the aid of sticky spots on their feet. Recently a very young salamander died stuck to the ceiling of our bedroom and stayed glued there until Humberto gently took her down.
